Video: Rapping to Romeo

Dobbs Ferry 8th graders experience "Romeo and Juliet" 2012-style.

For middle schoolers, reading Shakespeare can be a little...dry.

But not when Ty and Amy Lemerande—a husband-and-wife theatrical duo known as Knighthorse Theater Company—perform it.

For the last five years, the Lemerandes have come to to do classroom workshops and then perform excerpts from the plays that students are reading.

"We're best known for 'The Shakespeaean Jukebox,'" said Ty Lemerande. "It's basically 'Shakespeare on demand.' Audience members call out plays and we perform scenes from that particular work."

A former Dobbs Ferry student saw the Lemerandes perform on Cape Cod and told her teacher Claudia Ducic about them.

Ducic and the student's parents coordinated for the duo to hold workshops and perform at Dobbs Ferry Middle School that year...and the experience was so successful, they've come every year since.
