Cynthia Herriott-Sullivan Sworn-In As New RPD Interim Police Chief

During a swearing-in ceremony performed by Mayor Lovely A. Warren this morning, Cynthia
Herriott-Sullivan took the Oath of Office to become the new Interim Police Chief of the Rochester Police Department. Chief Herriott-Sullivan is the first female in RPD’s history to hold the Police Chief’s position.

A native Rochesterian, Chief Herriott-Sullivan previously served as a member of the RPD for 24 years, joining the Department in 1985 and achieving the rank of Lieutenant before retiring in 2009. She chose to come out of retirement to take on the Chief’s role at the request of Mayor Warren.

“Chief Herriott-Sullivan served RPD with distinction for many years, and I believe she is the perfect person to fill this role at this particular time,” said Mayor Warren. “She brings with her a wealth of experience and knowledge, and as both a woman and a mother, I am confident she will bring a different perspective to the job and instill a fresh approach to policing in
our city.”

Most recently, Chief Herriott-Sullivan served as the Interim Deputy Executive Director at Rochester Housing Authority. Her career also includes work with Seamless Communications Group, Rise Up Rochester, and CHS Project Management, as well as with Community Oriented Correctional Health Services in Bethesda, MD and the National Drug Court Institute in Alexandria, VA.

“I love this city,” said Chief Herriott-Sullivan. “I am a woman of faith who believes strongly
in problem-solving that involves developing sustainable solutions through collaborations and partnerships. I am committed to helping Rochester move forward. We will all need to bring our best to the table and work together to get
things done.”
