Police ID 71-Year-Old Woman Killed By Truck In Nassau

The woman was trying to cross the street when she was struck and killed by the truck.

UPDATE, 3:50 P.M.: Police have identified the woman that was killed as Letitia Kopper, of Rockville Centre.

ORIGINAL STORY: A 71-year-old woman was killed Monday afternoon after she was hit by a truck while crossing a street in Rockville Centre.

According to police, the woman was crossing South Park Avenue at Lincoln Avenue when she was struck by a 2008 Freightliner panel truck being driven by a 26-year-old man just after noon. The truck was making a left turn from eastbound Lincoln Avenue to go north on South Park.

The intersection is where Rockville Centre's senior center is located.

The collision left the woman with serious head injuries. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead by a doctor. The woman's identity is being withheld at this time.

The truck driver remained at the scene, and the truck was brake and safety tested. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
