Refrigerated Tractor Trailer Fire Closes Street, Damages Buildings In Oceanside, Fire Marshal Says

The Nassau County Fire Marshal's office says a refrigerated tractor trailer fire took 75 firefighters to extinguish Tuesday afternoon.

OCEANSIDE, NY — A pair of refrigerated trailers caught fire in Oceanside Tuesday afternoon, spreading to an adjacent building and requiring the work of 75 firefighters to extinguish, fire officials said.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office said a pair of refrigerated tractor trailers were reported on fire at 3400 Lawson Blvd. at 4:02 p.m. Tuesday, with first responders finding that the fire had spread to the building next to the trailers.

The Oceanside Fire Department was first on the scene, receiving mutual aid from Baldwin, East Rockaway, Island Park and Long Beach, Lynbrook and Rockville Centre departments, as well as a Nassau County Fire Marshal hazardous materials (hazmat) team.

Fire officials said the blaze was brought under control in under an hour, with no injuries reported to civilians or firefighters.

In the aftermath of the fire, the fire marshal’s office said there was serious damage to the two trailers with minor damage to the building. The Town of Hempstead Building Department was called to evaluate the damage, while the fire marshal’s office and NCPD arson/bomb squad are investigating the cause of the fire, officials said.

Lawson Boulevard was closed in both directions Tuesday afternoon, with an announcement of the closure from police at 5:07 p.m. and an announcement that the street had reopened just after 7:30 p.m.
