Baldwin School District ‘Fully Committed’ To Safety After Reports Of Gun In Shubert School

Baldwin School District said it was "fully committed" to safety Thursday after reports surfaced of a gun being found on school grounds.

BALDWIN, NY — The Baldwin School District said it was “fully committed” to maintaining safety for its students Thursday after News 12 reported that a gun had been recovered on school grounds.

The initial report from News 12 said that the gun had been recovered in the Shubert School, a Baldwin district school that offers a combination of high school class credits and career and technical education (CTE) credits.

Per the News 12 report, police said they had arrested a minor after the gun was discovered, having responded to the Shubert School around noon Tuesday. That response, police previously told News 12, came after they received reports of a weapon being seen at the school.

Thursday morning, police told Patch that they would not be commenting on the incident further, deferring comment to the school district. When reached for comment, the district said it had “immediately activated” its safety protocols.

“The Baldwin Union Free School District remains fully committed to maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive learning environment for every student in our care. On April 28, Baldwin Union Free School District responded to an incident at Shubert School,” the district said. “Upon learning of the situation, we immediately activated our safety protocols and contacted local law enforcement, who responded swiftly and professionally. The situation has been fully resolved, and all necessary actions have been taken in accordance with the district’s code of conduct.”
