Drunk Man Was Weaving Through Traffic With Baby In Car: Police

Police say the man tried to flee after being pulled over by an officer.

A Queens man was driving drunk on the Southern State Parkway with his infant in the car Wednesday afternoon, Nassau police said.

According to police, an officer on patrol saw Stanislav Shvartsman, 40, of 180th Street, driving a 2020 Mercedes Benz east on the Southern State Parkway at 4:40 p.m. in Rockville Centre. Police say Shvartsman changed lanes multiple times without signaling, and the officer pulled him over.

During the investigation, police say that Shvartsman tried to flee the scene and drove away. The officer followed him, and Shvartsman soon stopped and pulled over again, police said. Shvartsman was placed under arrest without further incident. His 13-month-old child was in his car, and was released into the care of a family member.

Shvartsman was charged with DWI, aggrvated DWI under Leandra's Law, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless driving, third-degree unlawful fleeing of a police officer in a motor vehicle and multiple traffic infractions. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 12 in First District Court in Hempstead.
