Handmade Halloween Cards
Instruction and information for a do it yourself design that everyone can handle.
Halloween is right around the corner, so it's time to get those cards out in the mail. Instead of buying a pack of holiday cards this year, why not make them yourself? Here is a cute way to design handmade cards that are easy and quick. You can even get the kids involved.
Materials: pencil, scissors, glue stick or craft glue, cardstock paper, newspaper or old book pages, buttons.
First, decide what size you want the card to be. I chose a 5x7 inch white flat card. Saving on paper when I can is always a plus!

Visit on Brower Avenue and on Sunrise Highway to check out their paper selection. You might even find some cool things to add to the card. Also, try for paper. They might have watercolor pads and that might work as well.
Then choose either newspaper or old book pages to create your Halloween character. You can find a stencil online or just draw it freehand. Then cut it out.

Stop by on North Park Avenue to pick up a newspaper. Try asking friends and other people you know if they own some old books you can use or buy some on Ebay and Etsy.
There are tons of options you have when choosing a character for your card. I chose a ghost but you can also use a bat, haunted house, candy corns, a pumpkin or any other themed graphic. They will all work fine.
Once you have the image cut out, glue it to the card. You can center it or put it more towards the left or right, like I did. Since I chose a ghost, I decided to use dark buttons for eyes. This adds a crafty element to the card. Whichever image you chose, think of creative ways to add personality and glue them on.
Then, all you have to do is add your message. You can use markers, colored pencils, stamps, just about anything you want. Even cutting out letters to create a collage feel would be really cool. You can also add some colored paper to the back to the card pops more.
Send it off and wait to hear compliments. Everyone will love how unique your cards are this year. They might even want to frame it. You can also take this idea and create banners and other décor for your home this season. Happy Halloween Rockville Centre!
