Hempstead Garage Fire Extends To House, Displaces 4, Fire Marshal Says

Fire officials say the blaze was called in at 9:35 p.m. at an Ann Street home.

HEMPSTEAD, NY — Four people are out of their homes Tuesday after a fire broke out in a detached garage and spread to a house on Ann Street in Hempstead, fire officials said.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office said the fire alarm was raised at 9:35 p.m. with the Hempstead Fire Department first to respond to the home. Upon arrival, fire officials said firefighters saw the fire in a detached two-car garage, with some minor spreading to the house and to another detached garage on a neighboring property.

With mutual aid from Baldwin, Elmont, Freeport, Garden City, Rockville Centre, Roosevelt, South Hempstead, Uniondale and West Hempstead departments, a team of about 150 firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within about 40 minutes, officials said.
