Nassau Police Rescue Woman Who Jumped Into Turbulent Water

The woman jumped into water behind her house and was quickly dragged away by the current. The officers' quick-thinking saved her life.

BALDWIN, NY — Nassau County police officers risked their lives over the weekend to rescue a woman who jumped into turbulent waters behind her home. According to police, officers went to a home on Bayfront Drive in Baldwin at 12:10 p.m. on Feb. 8 to perform a welfare check on a 29-year-old woman.

When the officers arrived, the woman jumped into the water in the back of her home, and the current immediately started pulling her away from shore. The officers jumped in the water to try to rescue the woman, but were unable to reach her. They found a nearby row boat and were able to paddle out to the woman, who had been dragged 50 feet from shore by then.

With the help of the Nassau County Police Marine Bureau, the woman was safely returned to shore and taken to a hospital for treatment. No one else was injured.
