BALDWIN, NY — The Nassau County SPCA is asking the public for help in caring for sick puppies that it rescued from a store in Baldwin earlier this month.

The Nassau SPCA rescued 11 sick puppies from the store Puppies 4 You, located on Merrick Road in Baldwin. Other sick puppies had been sold from the location and later died, the SPCA said.

The Nassau SPCA is asking for donations to help fund the care of the puppies. The county SPCA is not affiliated with the national SPCA and does not get any funding from the organization. It relies on donations for most of its work.

"Several puppies are in critical care. Many with severe respiratory infections," the SPCA wrote. "Medical expenses for our last pet store rescue reached over $39,000. Without your support, these rescues are not possible."
