State Investigating Fatal Oceanside Crash: New York Attorney General
A Hempstead man was killed in a Saturday morning crash in a car driven by an off-duty NYPD officer, Attorney General Letitia James said.
OCEANSIDE, NY — A fatal car crash in Oceanside is being investigated by the state attorney general office.
The victim, Adrian Wilburne, 53, of Hempstead, was struck early Saturday crossing Merrick Road at Oceanside Road, police said.
Attorney General Letitia James's Office of Special Investigation (OSI) is looking into the death of Wilburne by an off-duty NYPD officer, whose name was not released.

Under New York State Law, "OSI assesses every incident reported to it where a police officer or a peace officer, including a corrections officer, may have caused the death of a person by an act or omission."
If the review indicates the officer caused the death, OSI will launch a full investigation.

Wilburne was pronounced dead just after 2 a.m. when he was struck by 2020 Honda Accord, Nassau police said.
