Swastika Found Carved Into Nassau Sidewalk
Police say the hate symbol has likely been there for years and was only recently noticed. They are investigating it as a bias incident.

Nassau County police are investigating a bias incident after a passerby found a swastika carved into a sidewalk in Oceanside.
The hate symbol was found on Nov. 5, but police say it's likely it has been there for years, since the concrete for the sidewalk was first poured.
The swastika was found carved into the sidewalk on Oceanside Road near Carlton Court. It was ground away and removed by the end of the day.

Even though the crime was committed years ago, Nassau police are still investigating. "We don't tolerate this stuff," a police spokesman said.
Disappointed, saddened & disgusted that in 2018 I'm receiving this photo from a @Oceanside_NY_ neighbor out for a walk on this Autumn day. There is no place in America for anti-Semitism, especially here @HempsteadTown. It will not be tolerated or ignored. pic.twitter.com/gWqJJpu7ac

The swastika was discovered by a resident who was walking on the sidewalk. They took a picture, and then contacted state Sen. Todd Kaminsky's office about it.

"We find ourselves in a troubling time in our county and in our state," Kaminsky said. "In light of the Pittsburgh massacre as well, it is incumbent upon us to stand up against symbols of hate and to stand against hatred wherever we find it."
It's the second time this year a swastika has been found carved into a sidewalk in Nassau. In February, swastikas were found carved into the sidewalk in front of a home in Wantagh. And in Oceanside a week earlier, someone spray painted a swastika on the sidewalk in front of someone's home.
