Track Work Means Reduced LIRR Service On Babylon Branch This Weekend
Service will be running hourly instead of half-hourly during certain hours. Find out how your trip could be affected.

If you're looking to go to the city this weekend by train, you had better double-check your schedule and plan ahead. Track work this weekend is going to affect LIRR service on the Babylon branch, with many trains being canceled during certain hours.
The Long Island Rail Road said it has to perform concrete tie installation work this weekend. As a result, one of the two tracks between Valley Stream and Freeport will be out of service from 12:35 a.m. Saturday through 3:30 a.m. Monday. That means that Babylon branch trains will be reduced from running half-hourly to hourly during certain hours.
Going eastbound, trains that leave Penn Station at 6:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. will end at Jamaica Station. Eastbound customers traveling to Rockville Centre through Babylon will have alternate train service 30 minutes earlier or 30 minutes later.

The work won't be completed this weekend, either. The MTA said that service will be affected for subsequent weekends, but has not said when or how yet.
