As of 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Republican Brian Curran was leading Democrat Dermond Thomas with 60.78 percent of the vote.

Unofficial tallies from the Nassau County Board of Elections show Curran with 11,958 votes to Thomas' 7,710. Seventy-four of 123 precincts have been counted.

Thomas' campaign manager, Derek Donnelly, said they are waiting to see more numbers come in prior to making any announcements.

"I don't know that there will be a concession or there won't be a concession," Donnelly said. "I think this campaign is, was, and will continue to be about issues. Whether we win or lose, it's still about working hard to make our community better."

Earlier in the night, Curran thanked supporters at the VFW Post in Lynbrook, where he vowed to be a leader residents could be proud of, if elected.
