West Hempstead Trio, House Cats Displaced In Wednesday Night Fire, Fire Marshal Says
The Lakeview Fire department responded to the fire at 6:37 p.m. Wednesday, officials say.
WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY. — A trio of West Hempstead residents and their cats are out of their home after a house fire burned both floors and the attic of their two-story house.
The Nassau County Fire Marshal’s office and NCPD arson bomb squad are investigating the cause of the fire, which was responded to by the Lakeview Fire Department with assistance from departments in East Rockaway, Lynbrook, Malvern, Rockville Centre, Elmont, Lawrence-Cedarhurst and Inwood. In total, roughly 75 firefighters were on the scene of the fire and brought the blaze under control in about an hour.
Police said one of the residents of the house, a 55-year-old man, suffered some burns and smoke inhalation, and was hospitalized. Another resident, the fire marshal’s office said, was evaluated for smoke inhalation at the scene and refused medical treatment.

Finally, animal control was contacted to assist with multiple cats who had been in the house, fire officials said.
