Suffolk County welcomed a new Military History Museum not far from where Nike missiles protected America

Designed to become one of the most important tributes to Long Island veterans, leadership of VFW Post 6249 cut the ribbon on the Post's "World War II and Military History Museum," the results of 18 months of donated material, volunteer design expertise, and construction skill provided by a broad range of contractors coordinated by B2K Development's Construction division.

Not far from the site of where nuclear armed Nike missiles were meant to intercept Soviet bombers during the height of The Cold War, the VFW Post 6249 Museum housed an exceptional collection of military artifacts and memorabilia spanning multiple conflicts in American history. With an expanded facility, visitors found remarkable pieces from World War I, World War II, as well as recent conflicts including Iraq and Afghanistan. The full breadth and quality of the collection was on display, offering invaluable educational opportunities and providing a powerful tribute to the service and sacrifice of our nation's veterans.

VFW Post 6249 Museum Founder and Curator Richard Acritelli stated, "These military artifacts that were now presented to the public had the means to connect in a real and meaningful way with visitors – not just the families of those who had served but with a new generation of Long Islanders who would better be able to appreciate the legacy of freedom they had been given by those in the military."

Working closely with fellow volunteer subcontractors, B2K supervised the conversion of existing outdoor space into a climate-controlled interior environment, effectively enlarging the museum's exhibition footprint while maximizing the facility's existing infrastructure.

B2K Development Principal & President of Construction Jon Weiss stated, "We were honored to be part of this important expansion. This created much-needed additional space to further preserve our military heritage, while providing a valuable educational resource for the Rocky Point community and Long Island as a whole. It was our sincere hope that residents, students, and visitors would take full advantage of the expanded museum to learn about the experiences and contributions of our veterans across generations of service that had helped shape our great nation."

Weiss continued, "At the same time, we recognized that our communities needed to continue to do more to embrace, support, and assist the veterans who had defended our country. As many of our heroes faced challenges in life, it was critical to foster a stronger, more inclusive environment that offered lasting care, recognition, and access to meaningful resources. At B2K, we were committed to being part of this effort, with a goal of expanding our support for veteran organizations across Long Island."
