Final pretrial hearing for former Oneida County Sheriff's Deputy attempted murder case (cnycentral.com) — A former Oneida County sheriff’s deputy from Rome is headed to trial June 15 on arson and attempted murder charges tied to an April 2025 house fire. Prosecutors told the judge they expect to call about 50 witnesses over one to two weeks of testimony in Oneida County Court in Utica.

3. 224th ADG's Colt Brumm Named NGB Civilian Safety Professional of the Year (af.mil) — A Rome-based New York Air National Guard safety manager has earned national recognition as the National Guard Bureau’s Civilian Safety Professional of the Year for work done at the Eastern Air Defense Sector. His projects in Rome include new safety training, suicide-prevention-focused firearms instruction, faster mishap response planning, and improved safety for Security Forces members, all supporting the air defense mission headquartered in the city.

Witnesses Across Upstate New York Report Seeing Bright Fireball (bigfrog104.com) — Residents around Rome may have spotted a bright fireball streaking across the daytime sky, captured on dashcam along Erie Boulevard and widely shared by a Utica meteorologist. People from Little Falls to Verona reported a fiery, orange-tailed object, and NASA recently confirmed a similar daytime meteor over the Northeast, though it’s unclear if the two events are related.

Dashcam Of New York Driver Captures Wild Video Of Meteor That Exploded Near Boston With The ‘Equivalent To 230 Tons Of TNT' (brobible.com) — A driver’s dashcam in Rome helped confirm that a powerful meteor streaked across the Northeast sky before exploding over Cape Cod Bay with the force of about 230 tons of TNT. NASA says the fireball, visible from New York to Canada, caused sonic booms and tremors felt across New England.
