UPDATE: Second Teen Dies in Fatal Crash on I-95 in Rye

The accident occurred on the off-ramp of exit 19, Playland Parkway.

Update at 1:23 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015: A second teenager has died from injuries suffered in Wednesday’s fatal, one-car accident on I-95 in Rye, according to state police.

Rajiv Sardjoe, 17, of South Richmond Hills, NY succumbed to his injuries this morning at Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx.

Also killed in the crash was Vanessa Hoodith, 16, of Brooklyn. Three other occupants suffered injuries.

Original story: A 16-year-old Brooklyn resident was killed Wednesday when the car she was riding in drove off the road at exit 19 - Playland Parkway - on I-95 in Rye, according to state police.

The one-car crash occurred at approximately 12:23 p.m., and after the accident, both the northbound and southbound ramps to the Playland Parkway were temporarily closed while troopers investigated.

Killed in the crash was Vanessa Hoodith, 16, of Brooklyn, who was a passenger in the rear seat of the red 2013 Audi A4. Four other occupants in the car were injured and treated at area hospitals.

According to a preliminary investigation by state police, the vehicle was attempting to exit I-95 at a high rate of speed, failed to negotiate the right hand curve and drove off the roadway, striking the center concrete barrier with the left side of the vehicle.

At this time no charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
