Burglary Suspect Arrested With Burglary Tools, Stolen Goods: RPD

There had been a string of recent burglaries of businesses in the area where the suspect was taken into custody, Rye police said.

RYE, NY — A burglary suspect is in custody after police were called to a local business where a laptop had been stolen, police report.

The suspect was arrested after a burglary was reported on Elm Place in Rye. On Monday, just before 6:30 p.m., City of Rye police officers were dispatched on a report of a stolen laptop from an office on Elm Place. Officers were already aware that there had been recent burglaries in the area.

Cops had a description of the suspect, courtesy of the building manager’s security camera. When backup arrived, a man matching the description of the suspect was soon spotted.

The man, later identified as Abner Morisset Jr. from Brooklyn, was stopped on Theodore Fremd Ave. The 42-year-old was in possession of burglary tools, the stolen MacBook and cash, according to police. Morisset was booked on charges of burglary, possession of burglary tools and possession of stolen property.

Detectives are investigating whether Morisset is linked to any other crimes, according to officials.
