Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Compost: Free Event at Rye Nature Center
Rye Nature Center & City of Rye Sustainability Committee Offer Composting Event on May 6th at 9:15 AM

In partnership with the City of Rye Sustainability Committee's Healthy Yard Program, Rye Nature Center will present a user-friendly introduction to the art and science of residential composting on May 6 at 9:15 a.m. at the nature center, 873 Boston Post Road, Rye, New York. The workshop is aimed at those who've been intending to start composting but don't know where to begin or those who may have been unsuccessful in the past. RNC staff will start with the question ‘why’ and then proceed to explain the ‘how’ by showing examples of different kitchen compost collectors and compost bins. The program will analyze the RNC's composting area, including a worm compost bin, and will also show how compost is used in the garden. The event will conclude with a Q&A session.
The City of Rye Sustainability Committee launched the Rye Healthy Yard Program in 2015 specifically to promote awareness about the health and environmental benefits of using natural landscaping practices in a coastal community. The Rye Nature Center is a key partner in the multi-year initiative.
