Gas Leaks Cause Problems at Rye School

A faulty oven valve was the culprit.

A gas leak in a Rye school’s cafeteria oven set off alarms and forced an evacuation Wednesday.

According to the Daily Voice, firefighters were called to Milton Elementary School after a report of an odor of gas.

Students were evacuated for about 20 minutes.

A letter to parents sent by Superintendent Frank Alvarez said a valve was replaced in the oven Tuesday but the issue reoccurred Wednesday, the Daily Voice said.

All the oven are being inspected, he said.
