Historic Letter Donated to Jay Heritage Center in Rye

The letter was written when John Jay was governor of New York.

RYE, NY — A letter written by John Jay in 1797 was donated to the Jay Heritage Center.

John Adler, who once lived in Rye, gave the letter, which was written when Jay was governor, the subject being the protection of New York harbor by increasing military presence on Governor’s Island, according to myrye.com.

The Jay Heritage Center is located on 23 acres overlooking Long Island Sound in Rye, according to information at nysparks.com.

It is a National Historic Landmark and is the boyhood home of John Jay.
