Larchmont IHOP to Reopen Friday

The restaurant was closed for six weeks due to an electrical fire.

After six weeks, the IHOP restaurant in Larchmont will reopen for business at 7 a.m. Friday.

Franchisee Portia DeGast, who owns the restaurant with her husband Peter DeGast, said they were delighted to be able to open for business.

"All of us at IHOP—and some of my team members have been working there from between 15 and 32 years—have missed them (our loyal customers) as much as they've missed us," she said.

An electrical fire August 21 at the Boston Post Road restaurant forced the establishment to close for repairs

Peter DeGast said the fire started in the electrical system in the second floor. He had originally said the restaurant would be closed for two weeks, but once repairs started they found other things that needed to be addressed.

Peter DeGast said Thursday that all the inspections—building, fire and electrical—were done with no problems found.

He said all employees were paid while the the restaurant was closed.

Portia DeGast was grateful for the quick response by the Town of Mamaroneck Fire Department with saving the location so that it could be repaired and not rebuilt.

"We've always known how lucky we were to have such a great resource in our community," she said.

The DeGasts have invited the fire chief and all members of the fire department to the restaurant Friday as their guests.
