Legal Eagles Defeat Rye Brook in Bottom of Seventh

The Legal Eagles score two runs at the game's close to secure a win.

The Legal Eagles—Rye Women's Softball's second place team—came from behind yesterday to defeat fourth place Rye Brook 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh.

After four scoreless innings, several close calls at the plate and some failed loaded bases opportunities, Rye Brook was the first team to tally runs—Jamie Florindi scored in the top of the fifth off a Debbie Jond single to first.

Rye Brook was looking to close it out the rest of the way, but the Legal Eagles were looking to put runs up and take the lead.

"It's up to us," said Legal Eagle Head Coach Rose Marie Hanley as the bottom of the seventh began.

The Legal Eagles received the message and earned two runs off a single from Janet Herbold; the scorers were Glen Westerink and Desiree Mion. The win improved their overall record to to 3-1, and gave them sole possession of second place (behind first place F&A).

Legal Eagle Head Coach Rose Marie Hanley likes when games are as exciting as Wednesday's was.

"We always like the close action ones," she said.

"To come back in the last inning where everybody bats our kind of game... it makes the evening," Hanley added.

Rye Brook Head Coach Lauren Dzilinski was frustrated about the last inning of play.

"I can't believe we just lost that game," she said. "I don't even know what to say."

This may be the case, but Rye Brook (3-4) can rebound quickly Thursday in a make-up game against sixth place Pub Ryots. The squad then has a bye before continuing their season July 7 against Davy Byrne's Rum Runners, slated for 6:30 at Rye High School.

Next up for the Legal Eagles is a second match against Poppy's Ballbuster's on Sunday at 10 a.m. The Eagles previously lost a close 7-6 contest to the Ballbuster's on June 3.
