MVP Basketball Camp will hold its annual fundraiser on April 21 from 5-9 at the School of the Holy Child in Rye, featuring a night of basketball contests for kids and adults as well as food, drink, and raffles. Monies raised will support MVP's Youth Development Scholarship Fund. MVP Basketball Camp is a 501 (c)3 nonprofit athletic organization that has been running summer basketball camps in Westchester for 23 years. The organization provides opportunities for 300 economically disadvantaged children, ages 6-16, to attend basketball camp for at least one week each summer.
MVP is a truly life-expanding experience for the children receiving scholarships, and the 500 campers from paying families also benefit. In Westchester’s towns and cities, families with significant resources live more and more separate lives from those of modest means, a trend for which sociologists have given a sport’s-related phrase: “the skyboxification of America.” MVP is a place where kids from all backgrounds can get together. The result is that new friendships are made, stereotypes are broken, and everyone learns valuable life lessons through their actions on and off the basketball court.
We’re calling on all basketball-loving families to support our mission. Spend a few hours at MVP’s Hoops Madness FUNraiser in Rye on April 21, or make an online donation in lieu of attending. Your support, no matter how small or large, is an investment in our children and in the communities where we live.
