New Athletic Director Chosen for Rye Schools

The new hire is currently at Keio Academy of Harrison.

RYE, NY - A new athletic director was appointed Tuesday for the Rye City School District.

Michael Arias will succeed Rod Mergardt, who served as interim director for the current school year.

Arias will take over July 1 as director of health, physical education and athletics, according to a prepared statement.

Airas comes from Keio Academy of New York, located in Harrison, where he was the the director of athletics. There he supervised 25 coaches in a program that won numerous titles.

He also coached in the Nyack Public Schools and the Mamaroneck Union Free School District.

Arias said he was honored to be selected to lead the district in athletics.

“The focus of the department will continue to be on providing students with the best possible experiences both inside and outside the competitive playing arena,” he said.

Superintendent Frank Alvarez called Arias a prove leader and administrator.

“He led a successful athletic program while ensuring an outstanding educational experience for student athletes,” Alvarez said.
