'One Bite Pizza Reviews' Gives Rye's Sunrise Pizza High Marks
The founder of Barstool Sports and online pizza guru, Dave Portnoy, earned cheers on Purdy Ave. after giving the slice the thumbs up.

RYE, NY — The rest of the world now knows what generations of pizza lovers in Rye already knew — Sunrise Pizza makes a damned fine slice.
Barstool Sports founder and self-styled pizza guru David "El Presidente" Portnoy stopped by a Rye institution to review the pizza for the latest installment of "One Bite Pizza Reviews."
Proclaiming the pizza a "big time football pizza," Portnoy gave the Purdy Avenue gathering place's pizza a respectable 7.6 out of 10. While fans of the three-decade-old establishment might argue that a perfect slice deserves a perfect score, those on hand cheered the pronouncement from the notoriously hard-to-please online personality.

If Portnoy was impressed by the the pizza, he was perhaps even more impressed with the popularity of Sunshine Pizza and the eagerness of regulars (and even a few cars driving past) to share their local tradition with the rest of the world. He was, however, dubious that the owners were unaware of his fame.
"He didn't know anything about the reviews, the Italian guy, but he was like, 'I'm gonna cook it well done,'" Portnoy, who famously hates a soggy slice, said. "He re-put it in, so he must have known something."

Those who have spent their lunches or afternoon pick-me-ups at Sunrise Pizza, or just stopped by to pick up a pie or two for the family, however, know that this is how everyone is welcomed into the bustling pizzeria on a corner near the train station — not just middle-aged influencers.
