RHS Alum Wins $10K Scholarship at SUNY New Paltz

Miriam Ward, former Rye Patch shutterbug, received a $10,000 scholarship from the New York Women in Communications Foundation

Rye Patch says kudos to Rye High School alum Miriam Ward! Just last year, Ward was Rye Patch's Viewfinder, using her camera to capture photo gallery slideshows of life around Rye and Rye Brook. But that was just the glimmer of what seems to be a bright future for this talented young woman.

Ward was one of ten recepients of a $10,000 scholarship from the New York Women in Communications Foundation. Just completing her first year of study at SUNY New Paltz in digital media production and history, Ward is one of only two women from the SUNY system to receive the honor.

“I am so grateful and honored to be awarded a 2012 New York Women in Communications scholarship from the Meredith Corporation,” said Ward. “New York Women in Communications has given me the support, guidance and tools I need to achieve my dreams.

This is second year Ward has received the selective scholarship. Meredith Corporation underwrites the scholarship and publishes several titles including Better Homes and Gardens, Parents, Family Circle, Ladies’ Home Journal, Fitness, More, American Baby, and Every Day with Rachael Ray. Ward will also participate in a summer internship.

"This award is not just a scholarship; it’s the gift of empowerment and inspiration of these amazing women in communications who I admire and respect so much. I am beyond thankful and extremely excited to intern at the Meredith Corporation this summer,” she added.
