Rye Affordable Housing Plans Help County Exceed Goal
Westchester has been under a federal mandate to reach certain affordable housing levels.

The recent issuance of buidling permits in Rye for 41 affordable housing units on Theodore Fremd Avenue helped Westchester County exceed its goal for such housing under a federal settlement agreement, according to County Executive Rob Astorino.
Westchester was charged to help create hundreds of affordable housing units in the county as part of a settlement with the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The Rye development, and another one for 28 units on Hunts Place in New Castle, pushed the county over the top.

“Our continued success proves we are committed to meeting the county’s obligations under the settlement; local zoning codes are non-discriminatory and support the development of fair and affordable housing; and, cooperation—not litigation—is the best way to build housing,” said Astorino in a statement. “I want to thank our municipalities for their partnership and our county planning officials for their expertise and professionalism. It was through this team effort that we’ve been able to meet our goals from the beginning.”
