Rye Brook Loses to District 21 Champ

The Rye Brook 12 and under baseball team were never able to overcome Pelham's 6-0 lead in the top second inning Thursday.

Christopher Dutra scored Rye Brook's lone hit of the day on a solo homerun to right field, to close the gap to 6-1.

Things looked promising for Rye Brook until another Pelham two-run homerun in the top of the sixth inning led to the 9-1 final.

Rye Brook Head Coach Chris Dutra said it was tough to overcome Pelham's large lead.

"It was a little struggle early on," he said.  "We played to our best and the kids played well." 

Pelham won the New York Little League District 21 Championship a few weeks ago, which advanced them to sectionals.

Billy Golden struck out one batter in two innings pitched for Rye Brook. Justin DiCanio relieved Golden and walked three batters in two innings pitched.

Jake Wynn then came in for relief, walking two batters and striking out one in two innings.

Rye Brook plays in a Toms River New Jersey baseball tournament this weekend.
