Rye Brook Police Receive Reports of Tax-scam Phone Calls
Resident said they were called by someone saying they owed taxes and demanded immediate payment.
The Village of Rye Brook issued an alert Wednesday that the Rye Brook Police have received reports from residents who have been called by someone trying to facilitate an tax scam.
Residents said they received phone calls and were told they owed the U.S. Treasury Department money.
The caller threatened to have the person arrested if back taxes and fines were not paid immediately.

Rye Brook Police said these calls are fraudulent and anyone who receives such a call should hang up and not engage the person calling.
If residents receive a voicemail, the call should not be returned.

Residents should be advised that the IRS does not make contact by phone, only via the U.S. Postal Service, police said.
