Rye Courtyard By Marriott Robbery Suspect Faces Felony Charges

The thief fled with around $250, but investigators tracked down a suspect already being held on unrelated charges at the Putnam Jail.

RYE, NY — A man who investigators believe was behind the robbery of a Rye business in February was arrested on Tuesday, after a three-week-long investigation.

The City of Rye Police Department arrested Jose Nieves, of Brentwood, on a warrant for felony robbery in the third degree.

On February 11, shortly before 5 a.m., police were called to the Courtyard Marriott located on Midland Ave., after workers reported that the hotel had been robbed. The front desk agent told police that a man had come in moments earlier demanding the money from the register.

The front desk agent told police that the man had his hand in his pocket, causing her to believe he had a gun. The robber fled the scene after stealing about $250.

Rye police never gave up on the investigation and after a weeks-long probe, Nieves was identified and an arrest warrant was filed.

The 28-year-old was transported from Putnam County Correctional Facility to Rye Police Headquarters for processing. He was arraigned at the Rye City Court and then taken back to Putnam County Correctional Facility, where he is being held on unrelated charges.
