Rye Farmers Market Opens For 2018 Season

Celebrates its 15th season

On Sunday, May 13th, the Rye Farmers Market will open for its 15th season. The market will be held in the parking lot off Theodore Fremd Avenue, behind the Purchase Street stores, every Sunday from 8:30am to 2pm through December 2nd. The farmers market will continue its tradition of highlighting New York area growers and artisan food makers with the mission of bringing wholesome and delicious foods to Rye shoppers and supporting local small farms and food businesses.

The Rye Farmers Market is a grower-producer market, meaning that vendors must be farmers or make food with ingredients purchased from local farms. The few exceptions to this rule are olive oil, chocolate, tea and coffee vendors who are able to document their sourcing. This season, shoppers can look forward to a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and meats from area farms, including Certified Organic produce from Maitri Farm in Amenia, NY. Migliorelli Farm of Tivoli, NY and Newgate Farms of East Granby, CT will return with vegetables and orchard fruits. Water Wheel Farm, located in Sidney Center, NY, will bring grass fed beef and pasture-raised meats and this year will offer a monthly meat CSA package that can be picked up at the farmers market. New this year are Seth Greenberg’s Just Desserts, a micro bakery making cookies, tea cakes and more in Westchester, and Brooklyn’s Van Brunt Stillhouse, with their range of whiskeys made with New York grown grain. The full schedule of shopper favorites and new vendors attending this year is available at www.downtoearthmarkets.com.

Market visitors will find ample free parking in the lot adjacent to the farmers market. Shoppers can stay up to date on market events and more by signing up for the email newsletter via the Down to Earth Markets website or by following the Rye Farmers Market on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/ryefarmersmarket/).
