Rye Golf Club to Receive $2.5M in Fungicide Settlement
All 18 greens had to be closed for a portion of this year because the chemical killed much of the turf.

The City of Rye, on behalf of the Rye Golf Club, will receive $2.5 million in a settlement with fungicide manufacturer Tessenderlo Kerley Inc. after its product killed much of the turf on all 18 greens at the course this year.
Additonally as part of the settlement, Tessenderlo Kerley will set aside $60,000 in escrow for additional ground work if needed, reports The Journal News.
“I think the amount is fair,” City Councilman and attorney Terry McCartney told The Journal News. “I think the overall settlement is fair. And we have our greens back.”

The settlement represents significantly more than the “hard costs” of $500,000 associated with the problem, McCartney said. The dead turf issue resulted in the club having to shut down for much of the summer season.
City officials will earmark money from the settlement for lost revenue, capital projects and discount incentives for the 2016 season, among other uses, according to The Journal News.
