Rye Hearing to Discuss Combining Police, Fire in One Agency
Proposed legislation would also create a commissioner.

RYE, NY - One single agency could be created in the City of Rye to oversee public safety.
There will be a public hearing Wednesday at the City Council meeting on the proposal to create the Department of Public Safety as well as the new position of Commissioner of Public Safety, according to the agenda for the meeting posted on the city’s website.

The commissioner will be in charge of both the police and fire departments.
City Manager Marcus Serrano said the new department and commissioner will establish a chain of command for policy and procedures for both departments, the Journal News said.

The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at Rye City Hall, 1051 Boston Post Rd.
