Opinion: Rye United Disregards Their Campaign Promises

These were supposed to be Rye United‘s Commitment to the residents of Rye. Unfortunately, it seems their only commitment has been to themselves, their cronies and to maintain the status quo at City Hall.

• Integrity and Accountability. Serious crimes were alleged to have been committed by senior members of the Rye Police Department. What does Rye United do about it? Nothing except provide for a taxpayer paid attorney for one of the accused.
  

• Openness and Transparency. FOIL Requests are still not being fulfilled in accordance with the law. What is Rye United doing? Hiding behind a bogus attorney client privilege that doesn’t exist. It seems Rye United would rather protect City of Rye wrongdoers than to provide public records.
  

• Financial Oversight and Control. How much have legal fees increased under Rye United? Double? Triple? How many changes did Rye United make to Rye’s important commissions and committees including the Board of Ethics? Zero. That is not oversight. Rye United seems to be protecting their own interests while rewarding their political cronies.
  

• Communication and Cooperation. It seems most City of Rye business is done behind closed doors by Rye United.
  

• Common Sense and Good Judgment. No common sense and bad judgment seems to be the only thing Rye United is united in.
