Ski-Mask-Clad Suspects Spotted Trying To Access Cars In Rye

RYE, NY — Alert neighbors sent a pair of ski-mask-clad suspects scurrying out of town, according to Rye police.

On Sunday, shortly before 10 a.m., Rye police began getting calls reporting a black Jeep occupied by two suspects who were checking car doors while wearing ski masks. Officers immediately canvassed the area, but the Jeep fled the city after being noticed by a number of residents.

"We want to thank our community for being alert and notifying us immediately," police said in a statement posted on social media. "We want to remind our residents that these criminals do not care if it is 2 a.m. or 9:45 a.m. on a beautiful Sunday morning."

"They are looking for vehicles that are unlocked. Do not give them the opportunity to steal your valuables or your vehicle," cops said. "As always please call us if you observe any suspicious activity in your neighborhood. Help us keep criminals out of our neighborhoods by securing your vehicles and belongings."
