Steer for Student May 17 Dinner

Steer for Student Athletes, a non-profit organization located in Rye, NY, is committed to providing funding and services for their candidates to achieve better personal development and educational outcomes through athletic participation. On May 17th, Steer will host its Third Annual Spring Graduation Banquet at Lake Isle Country Club, 660 White Plains Road Eastchester, NY 10709, from 6:30pm – 9:30pm.

The evening is primarily dedicated to commemorating the graduates of the Steer program, which includes three student athletes, all of whom will be attending 4-year colleges or universities in the fall. The event will also feature a speaker from Laureus Sport for Good Foundation USA, a national foundation with a mission to change the lives of youth and strengthen communities through the power of sport (www.LaureusUSA.com). Steer for Student Athletes recently joined the NYC Sport for Development Collaborative, created by Laureus USA and Adelphi University. The collaborative is a group of over 60 local organizations using sport to positively impact the lives of youth in the New York City area.

“Our graduation events are always so inspiring, as it brings our mission – to use sports participation to save the world one student at a time – full circle,” said Michael Eck, Steer for Student Athletes Co-Founder and CEO. “We are delighted to have Laureus, the largest and most impactful Sport for Good organization in the world, join us to help celebrate our student athletes.”

Steer for Student Athletes originally co-founded in 2012 by Kevin O’Callaghan and Joe Durney, based their model on the simple principle, “pay it forward.” Steer is deeply committed to provide funding and support services for their candidates to assist students to graduate high school, prepare for further education, and/or entry into the workplace. The organization employs “Steer Advisors” who are responsible for tracking the needs of the student athletes, allowing them to assess their current approach and develop a plan that will help them achieve success.
