Stolen Car Crashes Into Rye Police Car As Accomplices Arrive
An attempt to pull over a stolen car led to a chase and a crash before a second stolen car arrived to rescue their partners in crime.

RYE, NY — A stolen car, a chase, a crash into a police cruiser and a flight across the state line started with the carelessness of a car owner.
Officers from the Rye Police Department responded to the area of Forest Ave. and Playland Parkway shortly after midnight on Wednesday morning, after reports of a stolen vehicle were broadcast from the Westchester County Real Time Crime Center.
The officers tried to stop the stolen car, but the driver sped off, leading officers on a chase. In the middle of the pursuit, a car (that had not yet been reported stolen from a home in Rye) crashed into the Rye police cruiser at the intersection of Midland Ave. and Peck Ave.

A second stolen car from Connecticut then picked up the occupants and fled onto I-95 northbound into Connecticut.
The officer involved in the crash did not suffer any serious injuries.

The stolen car from Rye was found to be unlocked with keys in the center console. Rye police took the opportunity to once again remind residents to lock their vehicles and bring their key/fob inside.
