A look back at the best 2010 had to offer in Rye sports.
It's been an interesting and exciting year in Rye and Blind Brook sports. From the Rye football team's big win against Harrison to the Blind Brook Trojans winning the Class C championship, here's a list of the most memorable moments from the 2009-2010 sports season, in no particular order:
Blind Brook Trojans Crowned Class C Champions
Blind Brook boys basketball beat the defending champion Valhalla Vikings 46-32 for the on March 1. MVP Lance Freundlich finished the game with 14 points, while Antoine Saliba had 10. The Trojans have since moved up to the Class B league, meaning it will face some tough competitors this season in its quest for another championship.

Trojans' Buzzer-Beater
Senior led the Blind Brook Trojans to a 38-37 victory over the Harrison Huskies Dec. 2. With only five seconds left in the game, the Trojans regained possession of the ball and Lavitt's shot sank through the net just in time to give his team its first win of the 2010-2011 season.

Rye Stuns Harrison with Last-Second Touchdown
In a rivalry that goes back 80 years, The Garnets scored and converted a two-point conversion with 15 seconds to play, shocking the Harrison Huskies and pulling out a 21-20 victory in a nail-biter. Despite pleas from school officials for people not to jump into the brook, the Garnets and their fans didn't take heed and decided to celebrate in a way that has become a longstanding—yet water-soaked—tradition.
Garnets Soccer Clinches 47th Consecutive Win
The No. 1 nationally ranked came in the form of their second Section One Class A championship in two years when the team beat the Yorktown Huskers 2-0 on Nov. 7. It was the Garnets third trip to the finals after playing Eastchester to a 1-1 tie in penalty kicks the last go around. Unfortunately, the team couldn't clinch a second state championship, losing in double overtime to Garden City on Nov. 20.
Garnets Beat Huskies in Extra Innings
gave the Rye Garnets baseball team a 2-1 victory over league rival Harrison Huskies on May 11. The Huskies led 1-0 at the end of the first when Mike Chiarella scored after a single from Harrison shortstop Mike Jacobson. But Breslin tied it at the bottom of the third inning, before hitting another run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give his team the win.
Wildcats Soccer Wins Conference Championship
4-0 on Nov. 13 for its third soccer conference championship in five years. The shutout was a nice rebound for the Wildcats after falling short to St. Luke's in the previous year's championship game.
Wildcats Girls Basketball Wins NYSAIS Championship
Wildcats girls basketball won the New York State Association of Independent School championships at the Fieldston School on March 7. The fifth seeded girls team for its second consecutive state championship.
Wildcats Boys Basketball Named NYSAIS Champions
The third-seeded boys basketball team also made history for the Wildcats, in its first appearance in the finals and giving the school its first boys basketball state championship.
Poppy's Wins Rye Recreation Softball Championship
The after a 12-11 win over High Intensity at Rye Recreation Park Aug. 4. After an easy 11-3 Game 1 victory on Aug. 3, Poppy's had to pull through for the 12-11 Game 2 victory and the series sweep. Poppy's clung to an 8-7 lead after five innings until High Intensity went ahead 9-8 in the top of the sixth. Steve Ramsey hit two home runs in addition to a single that brought in Poppy's John Castellano to tie the game in the sixth inning. Poppy's eventually won the game after Frank Luciano's sacrifice fly to right center scored Rich Falcone for the game-winning run.
Pub Ryots Make a Comeback
The to earn a spot in the Rye Recreation Women's League finals for the second time in 25 years. Though the team lost 14-3 to F&A in the championship game, the Ryots had a successful 201o season, winning its first game in 10 years before advancing to the finals.
