
Rye Patch shifts gears this week from high school sports to summer recreational sports until interscholastic sports begin again in the fall. Rye Recreation League seasons are well under way, as is Rye Little League. In fact, playoffs start this coming week with championship games for both levels beginning this past Saturday.

Men's Class A

Rainouts caused two games to be rescheduled Wednesday. Tony's Legacy will face Poppy's Cafe in a makeup game on July 11 while High Intensity and Rollins Insurance will play at 12:30 the same day. Jay Dee's handed T&J's their second loss, 19-10 in the lone game of the week. T&J's looks to move up from last place in the standings against High Intensity on Monday, while Jay Dee's is right in the middle with intentions of moving into first place soon starting with a game against Poppy's Cafe on Wednesday.
Men's Class B

Rye Liquors remained at the top of the Class B standings with a record of 8-0. Most recent wins came against fourth place Roadhouse Regulars, 8-2, and fifth place Kelly's 17-9. Uncle Henry's has also had a good season thus far beating out Davy Byrne's, 7-5, in a matchup between second and third place teams.
Men's Class C
Third place Uncle Henry's-Gabelli edged out the last place Dublin Dodgers 10-9 on Wednesday in a close game. The Wranglers were the Dodgers' next opponents, but the team beat the Wranglers 28-11 Monday. The day had another close game as fourth place Rye Ford Second Chance edged out first place RGB Hackers 10-9 improving to 2-5 on the season. The two teams face each other again Thursday.
Women's Softball
Poppy's Ballbusters edged out the Legal Eagles 7-6 for their first win of the season. F&A continued their stellar streak with a 16-4 victory over Rye Brook Thursday to stay in first place with a 5-0 record. This was followed by a 6-4 win over the Ballbuster's Tuesday. The Legal Eagles' chance to redeem themselves will have to wait until July 9 due to a rainout. The team will face Davy Byrnes' Rum Runners. Meanwhile Rye Brook looks to maintain their second place position Thursday against The HotShotz.
Rye Little League
Rye Little League major and intermediate league teams finished the regular season this past week. Here's a look at games in the major age group as info on intermediate games are not yet posted.
The Yankees demolished the White Sox 13-1 on Friday wrapping up strong 17-2 over the Diamondbacks on Saturday for a 9-7 record. Other games included the Giants defeating the Rays 9-2 and the Mets crushing the Phillies 12-2 for a 12-4 fourth place finish. The Rangers edged the Angels 9-6 with the White Sox redeeming themselves 10-6 against the Braves.
The Phillies struggled to complete the regular season with a victory, losing 8-6 to the first place Rangers. The Braves aand Angels also stopped the Diamondbacks and White Sox from capturing one last victory before the post-season 5-2, and 5-1, respectively.
With playoff games taking place on Monday and Tuesday, it will be exciting to see who makes it to the championships and goes all the way Saturday. Check next week's recap for scores.
