When Do Schools Close, Reopen for Holidays 2016 in Rye?
It's a short vacation this year in Rye based on when Christmas, Hanukkah and New Year's Day fall.
RYE, NY — It's just the way the calendar falls in 2016. Christmas Eve is on a Saturday; Hanukkah is on a Sunday; New Year's Day is on a Sunday.
And that's why the Rye school district's holiday vacation is only seven school days long. The last day of school is Dec. 22. Then Jan. 2 is the national holiday, and there you are, the end! School resumes Jan. 3, 2017.
