Yama and Niyama: The Ethical Precepts of Yoga
The Ethical precepts of yoga will be discussed, but also explored through movement, embodied and practiced.

According to Patanjali, before we even begin to attempt to engage our bodies in asana (yoga posture) and pranayama (yoga breathing exercises) we need to be engaging our consciousness and behavior in Yamas or restraints, and Niyamas or ethical practices. These ancient ethical precepts, if widely practiced, would change the way humans live together on Mother Earth for the better. In this workshop, the five Yamas (non-violence, truth, balance, non-stealing and non-hoarding) and the five Niyamas (purity, contentment, austerity, self study and surrender to Spirit) will be discussed, but also explored through movement, embodied and practiced.
We will meditate specifically on a few of them that are most needed by the participants. You will leave this workshop with an introductory or enhanced understanding of these important principles and practices.
Cost: $40 (WM); $44 (NM)
