UPDATE: Worker Electrocuted At Long Island Airport: PD
The man had been working on runway lights and a co-worker who tried to help him was injured, Suffolk police said.
RONKONKOMA, NY — A man was electrocuted working on runway lights at Islip MacArthur Airport and his co-worker was hurt trying to help him, Suffolk police said.
Michael Jakob, 51, of Bohemia was electrocuted just before 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon, police said, adding that he was transported by Sayville Community Ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A co-worker, Gino Fiermonte, 49, of Ronkonkoma was also "shocked" while trying to help Jakob and he was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital Medical Center for treatment of "non-life-threatening injuries," police said.

Islip Town spokeswoman Caroline Smith said an investigation is underway, and a runway is temporarily closed.
Islip MacArthur Airport, as well as town officials and staff “are deeply saddened by this tragic accident,” Smith said, adding, ‘Their thoughts are with the families affected.”

Grief counselors will be at the airport Thursday, she said.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified about the incident, police said.
No further details about the investigation were released.
