2 Dead In Head-On, Wrong-Way Crash On Long Island Expressway: Police

Both of the drivers died at the scene, Suffolk police said.

HOLTSVILLE, NY — Two men died when a pickup truck driven the wrong way crashed head-on into a sedan on the Long Island Expressway in Holtsville early Thursday morning, Suffolk police said.

Thomas Raimondo was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado eastbound on the westbound expressway between Exits 62 and 63, when it crashed head-on into a 2005 Acura, driven by Jose Ferreira, at around 12:43 a.m., according to police.

Raimondo, 61, of Holbrook, and Ferreira, 32, of West Babylon, were pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner, police said.

No one else was injured in the crash, according to police.

The vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing, police said. Detectives are asking anyone with information about the crash to call the 6th Squad at 631-854- 8652.
