$250K Settlement Inked In Long Island Police Traffic Stop Shooting: Report
Suffolk County admitted no wrongdoing, while Michael Shear agreed to drop all claims in 2018 lawsuit, Newsday reported.
HOLTSVILLE, NY — A $250,000 settlement agreement has been reached between Suffolk and a Holtsville man who sued the county after he dragged a police officer during a traffic stop and was shot, Newsday reported.
Suffolk County has admitted no wrongdoing and Michael Shear, 39, has agreed to release all claims related to his 2018 lawsuit, according to court papers signed by U.S. District Court Judge Frederic Block on Monday, the outlet reported.
Shear alleged excessive force by four officers when he was tasered, shot in the shoulder, punched, kicked, and hit with a baton after a traffic stop that he bolted from and led police on a chase in 2017, according to the outlet.

He also alleged the officers were not properly trained and the county failed to investigate citizen complaints of misconduct, the outlet reported.
In a statement to Newsday, his attorney, Cassandra Rohme, said, "Mr. Shear is looking forward to concluding a difficult chapter in his life that began when he was shot by Suffolk County Police in January of 2017."
