3-Year-Old Boy Seriously Injured In Commercial Kitchen Incident

HOLBROOK, NY – A 3-year-old and boy his father suffered serious injuries at a commercial kitchen in Holbrook Friday night.

Donaldo Almendarez, an employee of JP Wholesale Baking at 331 Dante Court was at work when his wife, daughter and 3-year-old son, Thiago Almendarez, arrived for a visit at about 9:45 p.m.

Thiago Almendarez reached into in a bagel making machine, causing severe damage to his left hand. Donaldo Almendarez then severed the tip of one of his fingers while examining the machine shortly afterward, police said.

Thiago Almendarez, of Hempstead, was transported via Holbrook Fire Department Rescue ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Donaldo Almendarez, 50, of Hempstead, was taken the same hospital in a private vehicle. He also suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
