UPDATE: Candy Bar Containing Marijuana Sends 6 Sachem North Students to Hospital
The candy, which was brought to school by a student, was prepackaged and a label indicated that it had marijuana in it, superintendent says.
LAKE RONKONKOMA, NY – Six Sachem High School North students were taken to the hospital Friday morning after eating a candy bar that contained marijuana, school district officials said.
The candy bar, which was brought into the school by a student, was prepackaged and and had a label indicating that it had marijuana in it, according to a press release from the Sachem Central School District.
Shortly after consuming the candy, the students began to feel the effects of the food and were brought to the nurse’s office and then taken to the hospital. Faculty and staff acted quickly with the health and safety of the students in mind, school officials said. All six students have now been released from the hospital.

“We continue to review the specifics of the situation and we will address it appropriately. We take all situations involving drugs very seriously,” Sachem Superintendent Kenneth Graham said.. “We educate our students on the dangers of illegal substances and will continue to work with our health department, substance abuse counselors, social workers, nurses, administrators, and staff, as well as local healthcare and law enforcement agencies, to address any issues related to drugs in our schools. The health and safety of our students is always our top priority.”
