It was extended from the East End to the rest of the county to make sure there is enough water for emergencies, officials said.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Suffolk County Water Authority officials sent an alert out Friday afternoon extending a water emergency from the East End to the rest of the county.

The stage 1 water emergency was extended due to persistent severe drought conditions, to ensure there is sufficient water for firefighting and other emergency purposes, according to the alert.

They asked residents to stop all irrigation from 12 to 7 a.m., as well as refrain from all non-essential water usage, the alert states.
