Brookhaven Town Police Blotter: Aug. 17 to Aug. 24, 2026

BROOKHAVEN TOWN, NY — Suffolk's first responders were busy last week, according to the Suffolk County Police Department and other first responders’ logs.

Here's a snapshot of some incidents and arrests:

CORAM

• A 76-year-old man from Coram was arrested in Coram and charged with second-degree trespass on Aug. 21 for being inside a condemned building.

CENTEREACH

• Someone used a fake $100 bill to purchase food from Domino's in Centereach at around 10 p.m. on Aug. 18.
  

FIRE ISLAND

• Officers responded to the scene of an argument between two people who knew each other on Ocean Bay Boulevard on Fire Island at around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday.

MASTIC BEACH

• Officers responded to an argument between two neighbors involved in a dispute on Lynbrook Drive in Mastic Beach at around 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

• The resident of a home on Johns Neck Road in Mastic Beach reported that a chain-link fence was accessed and the windows of the home were spray-painted at around 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

MIDDLE ISLAND

• Officers responded to a report of animal cruelty at a location in Middle Island on Sunday. An investigation is underway, a police spokeswoman said.

NORTH BELLPORT

• A man was punched in the face at a smoke shop on Montauk Highway in North Bellport on Thursday night, police said. The man was taken by emergency medical services to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in East Patchogue for treatment, according to police. It happened just before midnight.

NORTH PATCHOGUE

• Police say they made the second arrest in connection with a recent burglary at Fortunoff Backyard in North Patchogue. David Walshon, 39, of Sound Beach was charged with third-degree burglary for being one of three people who broke into the location. Walshon pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in First District Court in East Patchogue and was released on $1 bail, according to online records.

PATCHOGUE

• Officers responded to a small fire on River Avenue in Patchogue at around 8 p.m. on Tuesday. It was extinguished upon their arrival.

RIDGE

• Police say they have arrested the third teen in connection with a robbery in Ridge on Aug. 6.

Julian Buchanan, 18, of Rocky Point was charged with first-and second-degree robbery on Aug. 17 for his part in an incident in which a man was robbed at gunpoint of marijuana and a THC vape pen, police said.

He was arrested in the parking lot of Subway in Riverhead, according to police. He was additionally charged with six counts of burglary, police said. Further details were not available.

Buchanan pleaded not guilty at his arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip, and his bail was set at $750,000, online court records show.

RONKONKOMA

• Joann Cresci, 51, of Mount Sinai was arrested on Aug. 18 and charged with third-degree arson in Ronkonkoma. Police said she set paper on fire and placed it where the gas cap is located on her vehicle while at Bolla Market. Cresci pleaded not guilty at her arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip, and was released on bail with no monetary conditions, online court records show.

SELDEN

• Adreanna Cotter, 42, of Selden was arrested on Aug. 14 and charged with second-degree forgery in Selden. Police said she forged a signature on a document for the loan of a vehicle on April 11, and after it became repossessed, it was in dispute who owned it. Her arraignment information was not available.

SETAUKET

• A man reported that another man threatened him with a knife in an incident of road rage on Nesconset Highway in Setauket-East Setauket at around 5:45 p.m. on Aug. 18. The man told officers that a man in a black pickup truck sped up and then pulled in front of his vehicle and got out and flashed a knife at him, police said.

SHIRLEY

• A 35-year-old North Bellport man was arrested at around 9:15 p.m. on Aug. 18 after police say he left the scene of property damage at Smith Point County Park in Shirley. He was additionally charged with driving while intoxicated and aggravated DWI, police said. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip, and his license was suspended, online court records show. He was released on his own recognizance, according to the records.
